How To Replace Outdoor Carpets Quickly, Safely, And Without Professional Help
Laying carpet is relatively easy, cost effective way to improve your homes value. That once green carpet has been replaced with a large variety of colors and thicknesses. You should first begin by measuring room dimensions and then make a graphic design of the measurements. This will help you decide how many feet you need it’s wise to add 6″ to each side to allow for uneven cutting or oddly shaped walls.
Once you have your DIY carpeting you need to make sure the floor is clean and you should remove doors that swing toward the carpet. You then need to gather the following before you begin your project; sharp utility knife, double faced carpet tape, chalk like, scissors, tape measure and a straight edge.
The next step in discovering how to replace outdoor carpets is deciding which of the two adhesives you will use double sided tape or glue. The Glue works best in high traffic areas and areas exposed to weather. If you are using tape start the DIY carpeting installation by applying it to the subfloor edges, be sure to leave the protection cover on. Then you should make 6″ X’s spaced 2′ apart on the floor.
Next center the carpet in the room, allow the excess to run up the walls. When the carpet is centered fold the carpet backwards on its self. Apply glue to the subfloor with a trowel, or remove the tape cover.
Repeat the same exact steps on the other side. When completed trim away the excess DIY carpeting and trim loose strings. Be sure to cut V’s so the carpet will fit in the corners. To make it adhere better walk around the edges. Finish your project by use a metal binder strip or aluminum saddle in the door ways.
The outdoor carpet you purchase should be made from UV olefin fibers. It should be treated to prevent fading in the sun and pool chemicals if you plan to use it around a pool.
If your carpet will exposed to moister it should have a marine backing and be made to allow for moisture drainage.
