Small Garden Shed Planning
The addition of a garden shed in your back yard provides a world of added convenience. The structure can be fairly simple and low cost. It can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. It provides a place to tuck away garden tools, plant pots, bags of soil, or perhaps unused sporting equipment.
There are a number of obvious benefits to adding a garden shed and a number of less obvious benefits. A primary and quite obvious purpose is that a shed provides some added security to your belongings. Your belongings are less likely to be stolen if they are properly stored in a shed. For even more security you can add a lock to the shed. A less obvious benefit of having a garden shed is that you can store your gardening equipment out of sight. Your backyard will appear less cluttered if bikes, hoses, etc are stored out of sight.
The protection that a small shed affords your belongings is another benefit that should not be overlooked. If you didn’t have a shed in your backyard, chances are greater that your yard tools might either be forgotten outside in the backyard, or left out between jobs because of the hassle of trucking them back to the garage or basement. Sun and rain will definitely shorten the life of any equipment you have, not to mention the possibility of losing your tools for entire months if you didn’t gather them up before the first winter snow.
If you want to buy or build a little garden shed in your backyard, what is the first thing you should do? What I typically do is go shopping. I head first to Home Depot or Reno Depot and take a look at the garden shed kits that are on display. I can get an idea of what size I need, and how much a shed of that style and size should cost. These garden shed kits are very convenient, but typically will cost about 25% or more than buying the materials alone and building it yourself. Another option is just to go to a shed display center and buy one that is pre-built, or order one to be custom built. The only restriction to buying a pre-built shed is whether there is a clear passage to your backyard when it is transported.
Pre-fabricated garden sheds can be constructed from wood, metal, resin or a combination of materials. Garden shed kits tend to be made from wood or some type of metal like aluminum. In the event you are going to build the shed yourself, you will likely choose to have a wooden shed.
Garden sheds are quick and easy to construct, either from a kit or from scratch. Or consider buying a pre-fabricated garden shed. The addition of a shed to your back yard is a fairly inexpensive proposition. You and your family will yield the benefits and convenience of the garden shed for years to come.
