Keep Your Foundation Surface New With a Concrete Sealer

If you are considering laying a concrete foundation yourself around your home then to complete the task properly you will need a good concrete sealer. In order to protect your concrete you need to use a specific sealer that is designed to protect your concrete all year round.

The sealer is easy to apply onto your concrete foundation, and it will help extend the life of the surface. The sealer is a simple chemical wash that in many regards is similar to paint. Concrete sealer is applied to the top surface of a concrete foundation in order to prevent water or any other type of liquids from ruining it.

The ironic thing about the concrete making process is that water is used to make the concrete but when the concrete is dry then water is the enemy. If water is allowed to pour into the surface of the concrete then the concrete may expand and crack. This defeats the purpose of a concrete foundation as the strength of the foundation would be significantly weakened by any cracks or abrasions

Concrete is considered to be a porous substance. Therefore, by applying the sealer to the top portion of the concrete after it has dried, you can pretty much close some of the pours so it can block any liquids or water that come in contact with its surface.

When applying the sealer to the concrete base, you will need to ensure that the surface is free from any debris or dirt. Use a hard wire brush to eliminate all debris that is present on the surface before laying the concrete sealer down. Any debris that is not removed will stick in between the surface of the concrete and the sealer. This can cause an unattractive appearance to the surface to occur.

A thin coat of sealer is all that is needed for your surface. You should avoid using excessive amounts of sealer, instead spread the sealer on the concrete surface, do not pour it on.

You can decide which type of sealer you want to apply to your concrete surface. There are several types but the main ones are transparent and colored. The obvious choice for a foundation would be the transparent option.

Usually, sealers are not expensive so you should not have to pay much to coat your entire foundation. Just make sure to apply the sealer using a brush and not to pour it straight on to the concrete.

Remember that you should apply a concrete sealer to your concrete if you want it to last over time. If you do not, then you may run into trouble in years to come when the water wears down the concrete and causes severe structural problems due to the weakness of the foundation.
