Guidelines For Starting Your Own Lawn Mowing Business
It is a rather straightforward process to start a lawn care business. You should determine what type of lawn care services you wish to offer to your customers. There are a number of services that a lawn care business can offer. This is your choice to make. Don’t forget that when you are just starting out you might want to limit your business to basic services only until you get the hang of your new business.
Does my company name really help me to get customers? Some can debate this question. To put it simply, yes it does matter. You will definitely want your company name to mention something about the services you provide. Examples of lawn mowing business names are ‘Loyalty Lawn Care Service’ and ‘Frank’s Lawn Care’. Notice that they both contain something about the services that they offer.
Do I need to hire staff? If you are looking to start a small business and you don’t have your clients established yet then you should be able to handle everything by yourself for the time being. However, having one extra set of hands can be a big help when starting a new business.
Should I put an advertisement in the newspaper to get clients? Yes. The local newspaper is a great way to advertise your new business. You can start out by running a small inexpensive ad during the weekends for your new lawn care company. There are otherways you can try to get new clients as well. You can post out flyer’s however, this can be a bit expensive. You can also ask your first few clients to keep your company sign in their yard for a discounted rate on their bill if this is allowed in your area.
How should I value my services? There are a few things to bear in mind when it comes to pricing your lawn care services; how long it takes you to finish a service and how much your competitors charge for the same service. Understanding how much your competitors charge will give you a good gauge on a ball park amount that you should charge.
How much capital should I put into my lawn care equipment? It really does depend on how much money you are happy spending at first. If you have limited finances at first you may want to get only the basic equipment. It doesn’t hurt to shop around for deals on lawn care equipment and you may also acquire second-hand. If you decide to get second-hand gear try to get a guarantee with it or you could be putting your investment at risk.
When and how should I bill my clients? This is a great question! Most companies invoice every two weeks, monthly, and a few even bill quarterly. At first if you have limited funds you may want to bill weekly. You can also invoice on the same day of service. Typically companies will give clients 30 days to pay from the time they receive their invoice.
If you are going to start a lawn care business take some time to think about your strategy. It doesn’t hurt to wait a day or two and do some investigation on lawn care companies and how you can succeed at setting up your own lawn care business.
