Choosing the right outdoor storage shed plan for your garden
So you’ve done all your work in the garden and don’t like the particularly messy look of all your tools and equipment laying strewn about. You feel the need for a nice and neat place to have all your tools stored in an organised way and to have some storage space as a bonus – you’re looking for a garden storage shed. The only problem is, you don’t know how to get started on this…You’re best advised to start with a storage shed plan. And the first step in that process is to determine what type of plan you require, and you can do this by doing your research as to what your needs and requirements for the shed are.
So, you know that you want your tools and garden items stored – and you know best exactly what items you have now and what storage space you’re going to need for all those tools and for your future needs. For example, take into account any future purchases that you might make such as a ride on mower or a snow blower perhaps. Your new storage shed needs be their new home and as such you need to make sure you plan for it.
Next question is where you’re going to place the shed? This will depend in part on what space you have available, plus what type of shed you’re going with. Lets say that you have two choices of location – one is at the back of the garden out of sight and the other is on the edge of your flower bed. The one out of sight will be difficult to get at, but both places can accommodate the shed size that you need – this is where style of shed comes into play. If you’re out of sight, tucked away, your style of shed can be basic and simple in appearance whereas the one next to your flower bed needs to be fancier to fit in with the look of the surrounding garden. You need to keep this in mind when you pick your shed plans.
You will need to have at least a rough budget in mind. When you go to get your storage shed plans you may have the option of choosing your plans according to what materials you want to use. Different materials have different price ranges. For example if the basic plan falls well within your budget then perhaps a more deluxe version will be an option for you.
Be practical when choosing your plan. You are probably going to be surprised as to just how much you are going to have to choose from. If you arent careful and stick to your own plans you could get carried away quite easily. Most often the plans will give you a picture of the finished projects. Youll see several that you really like. Some of them look like little cottages. Now look at them realistically, they have to meet all the needs that your have identified. Pick out two or three that you really like and see if they answer these questions.
1. Are they the size that you need? 2. Will it fit in with the area you have chosen? 3. If it requires a building permit will it meet the criteria? 4. Is it simple and easy to understand for the novice? 5. Does it give a complete list of materials, and will these materials be readily available in your area?
