Whether renovating your home to keep or sell, there are several ways in which one can save money on such renovation. Of course, one must first decide whether such home is worth renovating. For, while a number of homes are worth saving, there are also those which are best demolished over time.

However, before assuming such materials are free, one may want to check with the land owner to assure it is okay to take same. Otherwise, one could be accused of stealing. Although, one may want to also assure that no one else has claims on such items before removing same.

In fact, often builders tend to reclaim old lumber and other items to use in current building projects. As such, depending upon who owns the land where such debris has been left, one can most often determine who to talk to about claiming such items for oneself. However, if the owner believes any such items to be of value, the owner may request a fair price for same.

For, if law enforcement were to drive by and see one pilfering through such materials, one may stop and ask if one has permission to do so. At which time, provided one has such written permission, one can provide such to the officer in writing. Although, the officer may still go as far as to call the individual who provided such information to assure that such permission is in fact authentic.

Of course, one may want to be quite cautious when looking through such debris. For, if one does not wear protective clothing, gloves and shoes one could very well risk injury. As such, if one is going to wade through a mixture of construction debris, one may want to consider dressing for the occasion.

Last but not least, as most likely such debris is going to be covered with dirt and germs, one may want to be sure and take along hand sanitizer when browsing through such debris. For, when searching for usable items, one must often also handle a great deal of trash. As such, to assure one does not get sick from handling such debris, one may want to use such sanitizer on a regular basis while conducting such search.
