Here’s How You Can Get That Beautiful Lawn
Having a beautiful lawn is actually not much of a secret at all. Want to know how it works?
Your should plant the right type of grass for your area Use the proper fertilizer as directed a couple of times a year Keep well watered during the growing season Never mow shorter than 1/3rd the present height
Select grass seeds that grow well in your area.
Do your homework. The climate and topography is different in each state. For instance, if someone who lives in Oregon tried to grow a Dichondra lawn they would learn it simply wasn’t possible to have this type of lawn in Oregon due to the colder winters and someone who lives in Southern California may prefer to have Dichondra lawn. According to the zone you live in, plant and seeds are available by catalog.
Proper Fertilazation
You can have a lush and healthy lawn but you are going to have to feed it with the proper nutrients. The right fertilizer for your lawn can be found at your local garden store. Follow the simple directions and you are good to go. Available in both liquid and dry form are fertilizers. A word of caution. More is not better when it comes to fertilizer. Did you know that over fertilizing will burn your lawn?
Watering Tips
Depending on the grass type, the amount of water that your lawn needs will vary. Generally, this would mean applying one inch of water per week is recommended when there is insufficient rainfall during summer drought. You can measure an inch of water if you mark the side of a tuna or pet food can placed in the lawn. The early morning hours is considered as the best time of day for you to water your lawn. Set your timer, if you are using one, for 2 hours a day, 3 days a week or every other day.
Mowing
If a healthy lawn is what you want, then don’t cut more than one-third of the grass blade in any one mowing. If you have a busy schedule and the grass gets ahead of you, then move up the cutting height of your mower to the highest setting. Catch the cuttings with a bagging unit, rake the lawn with a leaf rake, or use a mulching blade. You can then move the cutting height back to normal and cut the lawn again a few days later.
To learn more about planting and maintaining a beautiful lawn, try looking for a good book on the subject in your local garden supply store.
