Good Bang For The Buck – Rolling Lawn Edger Critique

Yes, I’ve discovered that it is entirely possible to spend the entire weekend mowing the lawn. After fighting for several hours to edge my neglected sidewalks and driveway with a manual edger I finally gave in and bought the Edge Hog from B&D.

I can’t return it once it’s been used, so I guess I’ll find out how good the B&D warranty process works. I was very impressed by this edger. However, it worked easy enough. Due to the length of the lawn hanging over the sidewalk, in most places, it required running the EdgeHog over each section at least twice. I recommend this product. I have had other edgers that cost more than 3 times the price and didn’t work any better.

And the price is great to. Get this one it a great product!

OK, so I was a little late buying into the whole “Keeping up with the Jones’s” landscaping and lawn look. This thing was slicing through 3-4 inches of THICK dirt and grass (4 years) growth like it was soft butter.

I finally switched back to using a spade, and it went much faster than using the edger. Now I use the edger to maintain what I originally did with the shovel and it works like a charm.

The electric start is far more reliable than a gas engine. While the Edge Hog can’t trim next to trees or the house, of course, it clears a straight line next to walks with ease and can trench a line around garden beds. The blade is great and it gets the job done quickly easily and safely. I even think it’s better than my neighbor’s gas-powered edger. I purchased one of these about 8 years ago and it’s been chugging along fine ever since [other than replacing blades periodically). We have purchased another house about 3 hours away and I decided to buy another one for there. I recommend buying extra blades when you purchase one, you will soon need them. Been using the attachment weed eater edger.

I was a little disappointed when I found out this edger/trencher didn’t really “trench”. This is the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars. Anyway, I am very pleased with the overall tool. The only part I find lacking is the edge guide. My daughter also has one and she is very pleased with its ease of use and durability. I wanted an edger that was moderately priced and did a decent job of edging.

When you are removing a lot of material, it is much easier to edge a dry lawn than a wet one. Removing 3-4 inches of wet dirt is not easy, but this unit was up to the task.

A few notes – Only use it when it is bone dry outside. window chip repair.
