We Love It – Best Gas Lawn Edger Critique
I find I spend 1/2 the time with this edger doing the same work. I actually do more work now in less time since I use it for trenching the flower-bed lines now. The handle is cheap molded plastic that is held on to the metal (amazing there is a metal part on this) shaft by a screw. Not a bolt, not a sturdier arrangement that can be tightened.
Some of these tips help me get done faster with the job. Keep the power cord over your shoulder so it doesn’t fall out all the time.
I’ve had this product for over a year. The Good: You need a lot of extension cord, but that’s obvious. I bought this to edge my lawn – I think I should have bought a string trimmer instead. It does edge but I don’t think it does that well with my kind of grass and my edges have some stones. I’ve had to return one item bought through Amazon for replacement, and that was an easy and excellent experience. I have used this product only once and it is far superior to the Ryobi that I had before it. Wish it would cut a wider swath as it works. Got tired of edging by hand or with a string trimmer, liked the Amazon price and the maker.
Unfortunately, this is endemic in most products sold in America these days. Companies have greatly cheapened products, and manufacture them cheaply NOT to last long (planned obsolescence).
I am still using the original blade, so nothing has been a serious problem. Compared with the manual edgers which you have to push hard and fast, this small electric model is a dream. When you are removing a lot of material, it is much easier to edge a dry lawn than a wet one. Removing 3-4 inches of wet dirt is not easy, but this unit was up to the task.
This edger is a major time and muscle saver over the manual ones I’ve used, such as the Rittenhouse edging and trenching tool (ASIN: B0002ZQGZQ). I still use the manual Rittenhouse to start new edging projects, but this electric edger is a dream come true for ongoing maintenance. In the few places where the length of the lawn was short, the EdgeHog performed very well with one cut. I am very pleased with the results and am very happy with the performance of the EdgeHog. That trimmer did the job well, but I could tell that the engine could not provide the power necessary to run an edger. Needless to say, after two years of use, the trimmer completely died. We have such thick grass here in Florida that I was worried it wouldn’t handle it but I was pleasantly surprised at what a good job it did. This edger is awesome.
Not a bolt, not a sturdier arrangement that can be tightened. WINDSCREEN CHIP REPAIR.
