Economical And Effective Overall – Manual Lawn Edger Tool Critique
Our grass was pretty thick for the initial job and it handled it without and huge hassles. It was much nicer the second time around.
It’s not too heavy to carry around, but it has enough weight to stay in place and dig where you want it to. This is my first edger, and it’s definitely a keeper.
My father used it today for the first time and I have to say I am impressed. I had never owned an edger until I bought this one.
Works great for edging, and cutting in buried cables and making garden boarders. When edging, try moving the edger forward about a foot or two, then pull it back, and then forward again about 2-3′. Easy to set up and use, adjustments are easy to make, very lightweight and maneuverable. I didn’t need a big heavy gas engine edger at 2-3 times the cost for small amount of edging every couple weeks.
What had been a chore for years turned out to be a short and sweet job to get the edging done and it looks a whole lot better than using a HOE. This edger works great and I am going to use it for my flower beds and plan to use it to dig me a little trench to put in some lighting along our side walk. I have a couple hundred feet of edging on my front yard and I can do the whole job in maybe 20 minutes tops. It beats the heck out of trying to get a clean, even, straight job with a string trimmer. It is easy to assemble. Quiet, powerful, lightweight and easy to use.
Didn’t really know what I was doing, though I got the hang of it in the end. I read the instructions but didn’t do it for about a month after that. It could have been because the edge attachment only worked well when the trimmer was running at full throttle, which obviously puts a lot of strain on the engine. I debated whether or not to get a gas edger, but most of the edgers I researched were either too expensive, or not CARB compliant (we have strict emission laws here in Cali). It was purchased for me for my birthday (yeah I really did want this for my birthday). This past Sunday was nice so I decided to see how well this would do on edging my lawn. Two horsepower is plenty adequate for your basic edging needs. Since my old edger/trimmer broke, I had neglected the edges of my lawn and they had already been densely overgrown after six weeks.
Yard devas are all about color and looking good while you are having fun! Make sure the depth adjustment screw is tight though, it loosened up once and I had to secure it but after that it was fine.
This is an edger that will work great for maybe a season. Pay extra and buy a better edger from any other company. This B&D Hog Electric Edger gives excellent results, and it is very easy to operate. I’m retired now, and I’ve used several Gas and Electric edgers before.
Mine overheated and the motor burnt out. canon canoscan 9000f film and negative scanner.
